---- — Although Typhoon Haiyan hit countries on the other side of the world, its devastation had an impact on lives in Kokomo. Parishioners at St. Patrick and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Churches lost loved ones in the November natural disaster. There is a large population of Filipino families in the two churches.
As a result, the two parishes will be offering a Mass at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at St. Patrick Church, 1201 N. Washington St., to remember victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
All are invited to join members of the local Catholic community for this sacred liturgy to show support for those who have experienced losses in this storm. A light reception will follow the Mass.
One member of St. Patrick lost most of her relatives on both sides of her family when the storm swept through the Philippines.
“When the church became aware of her loss, we were reminded that global events really do have a local impact,” said Chuck Jansen, stewardship director at St. Patrick. “We realized that others in our community were probably affected as well.”
