Essay contest open for students

---- — Students in grades six to nine are invited to submit an essay to the Hoosier Heroines: Who is Yours and Why? essay contest. Essays should be 500 to 700 words and typed in 12 point Times New Roman with 1 inch margins and double spaced.

Additionally, essays must include a cover sheet and signed consent form, available at the Walton and Tipton Township Library or online at http://www.in.gov/idoa/2920.htm. Essays may be submitted electronically in PDF format to idoaspecialevents@idoa.in.gov with the subject line: Hoosier Heroines essay, student name and student grade level.

One winning essay from each grade level will be selected by the following offices: sixth grade, Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann; seventh grade, Secretary of State Connie Lawson; eighth grade, Auditor Suzanne Crouch; and ninth grade, Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz. Essays are due Feb. 21; winners will be notified March 12 and an awards program will be held March 26 at the Indiana Statehouse.
