Library plans game nights

Kokomo Tribune

---- — The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library is sponsoring Game On, a time for families to play traditional and contemporary board games, and to experience Wii on a big screen. The sessions will be 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 23, Feb. 6 and 20, March 6 and 20, April 3 and 17, and May 1 at the Main Branch, 220 N. Union St.

Children 9 and under must have a responsible caregiver age 14 or older on the premises.

In addition to being fun, board games help children learn. They learn how to count and how to recognize shapes and colors. They learn to recognize letters, which aids in developing literacy skills. In addition, they develop fine motor skills when picking up cards or game pieces. Playing board games also helps children learn how to follow rules, problem-solve, and interact well socially as they learn how to share, wait their turn, and work as a team. Family game time allows caregivers to spend time with children, listen to and interact with them.
