Tech vendors coming to IU Kokomo expo

Indiana University Kokomo officials are hosting a “New to IT@IU Tech” expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday in Alumni Hall.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to learn about Indiana University Kokomo’s technology resources, play a game on a big-screen monitor, and enjoy a free walking taco, visit with vendors and learn the ins and outs of using campus technology during the event.

“This is especially a great opportunity for new students to learn about the resources we have on campus, to get them connected and keep them connected,” said Kathy Kennedy, interim campus web manager.

The first 100 students who engage with at least three vendors will receive free T-shirts. Vendors include Dell, AT&T, UITS-Kokomo IT Training, the IU Kokomo Internet radio club, the new media academic club, the library, Verizon, Lenovo and CDWG.

There also will be battle gaming demonstrations on three large monitors, featuring Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Ouya, and a gadgets showcase featuring Google glass.

Chamber rolls out new jobs site

Whether it’s searching for the next employee, looking to aid a student’s career selection or needing a regional workforce snapshot, www.indianaskills.com may have the answers you’re looking for. This free online hub is a searchable database of current job statistics (supply and demand) for both Indiana and specific regions of the state. The site, which made its debut last fall, was updated this month to have the most current data available on the jobs, skills and certifications employers requested throughout Indiana.

The update also includes information about how graduates of associate degrees and certificate programs are faring in terms of wages and employment a year later. The supply data is gleaned from the Indiana Workforce Intelligence System (IWIS), a unique database that tracks the employment and wages of recent college graduates of public Indiana institutions.
