“Youth Mental Health First Aid U.S.A.,” an interactive training course for adults who work with junior high- and high school-age youth, is planned 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 22 at The Crossing, 1234 N. Courtland Ave. The cost is $35 per person and includes books, class and lunch.
The national eight-hour certification course, sponsored by Mental Health America of Howard County, presents the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, teaches adults how to help a youth in crisis or a youth who is experiencing a mental health or substance-use challenge, and teaches a five-step action plan to support an adolescent.
A participant who successfully completes the program will become a certified “youth mental health first-aider.” This program offers eight continuing education units.
Registration is required. Call MHA of Howard County at 765-459-0309 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
