INDIANAPOLIS — Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, the Indiana War Memorials Commission, and the 500 Festival are partnering to collect tattered U.S. flags for proper retirement through a local service project called Girl Scouts for Old Glory.
The public may take their old flags to the Indiana War Memorial, the 500 Festival Building, or any Girl Scouts of Central Indiana service center, including 815 W. Superior St. in Kokomo, through May 23 during business hours.
Tattered flags will also be collected the morning of the IPL 500 Festival Parade, which is May 24. On that Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, the public may take their tattered U.S. flags to the top of the north steps at the Indiana War Memorial for collection by Girl Scouts.
The flags will be properly retired during ceremonies conducted this summer during Girl Scout day camps and resident camps located throughout central Indiana.
