Trinity to begin weight-loss class
Trinity United Methodist Church, 1701 S. Locke St., will host a 10-week Weight Loss Challenge course beginning at 5:30 p.m. Monday. The cost to join is $29, which will be paid out in cash and prizes to the winners.
The nonprofit course offers tips on nutrition and exercise and encourages people to lose weight and inches by eating healthy, balanced meals, to understand the benefits of good nutrition and exercise, and to provide a support network.
Participants may use any healthy weight-loss program they like or a customized plan. Weigh-ins will be each week and participants will be measured periodically during the 10-week program. The three participants with the highest percentage of weight loss at the end of the course will split the monies collected.
To reserve a spot in the class, call Sandy at 765-419-0567.
Red Cross needs disaster volunteers
LOGANSPORT — All area residents are invited to attend an American Red Cross call-out May 19 for disaster volunteers. The meeting will be 6 to 8 p.m. in Logansport Red Cross office, 1200 W. Market St.
The Red Cross said volunteers are critical to its humanitarian work, preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies. More than 90 percent of the American Red Cross workforce is composed of volunteers.
The volunteer call-out meeting and initial training are for people interested in becoming a local Red Cross disaster volunteer. Attendees will learn about American Red Cross services, disaster relief and what it means to be a local disaster volunteer. Trained local disaster volunteers make it possible for the Red Cross to provide immediate emergency assistance to families affected by fires, floods, tornadoes, ice storms, blizzards and other disasters throughout the year.
