Library sponsors game day

The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library will join hundreds of libraries throughout the country Saturday for the sixth annual celebration of gaming in libraries — International Games Day @ Your Library.

The library will offer special gaming programs and events suitable for the whole family from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library Annex, 305 E. Mulberry St., just east of the main library.

“Libraries are becoming family destinations, and are continuously offering new formats and innovative programs and services that educate, entertain, and expand interaction with their users,” said Nicole Porter, children’s services coordinator. “Gaming of all types at the library encourages young patrons to interact with a diverse group of peers, share their expertise with others, and develop new strategies for gaming and learning. Plus, it’s a way for traditionally underserved groups to have fun in the library and interact with other members of the community. Games Day is a great opportunity for families to get out of the house and play together in the one community institution that welcomes everyone.”

There will be traditional games, such as Candy Land and Sorry!, as well some new offerings debuting for this event.

“We are thrilled to offer a Yu-Gi-Oh! game here with official judges to supervise the tournament,” Porter said.
