The Kokomo Area Career Center Culinary Arts students will host a grand opening of the Kokomo Confectioners’ Co., 207 E. Superior St., at 3 p.m. Sept. 3. Store hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the store will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on First Fridays. On Sept. 6, the shop will offer $1 off every $5 spent.
The students will sell a collection of homemade chocolates (including chocolate-covered strawberries); pastries (including petit fours, mini cannolis, mini cheesecakes, mini brownies, cupcakes, and assorted cake pops); candies (including gumballs, gummi worms/bears, and suckers); popcorn and Coca-Cola products. Seasonal specialties will be available starting in November.
Career center students restored much of the original furniture and candy accessories from the Cherry House Candy Co., which was operated by the Mikalas family in the 1930s at the site.
All proceeds from sales go toward paying operating expenses and for students to compete in culinary contests.
