---- — The Gilead House, 4031 S. Webster St., will sponsor an informational meeting for ex-offenders and potential employers from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 5.

The Gilead House is offering an Employee’s Readiness Program for people re-entering employment after incarceration. The Gilead House team has created a program that will present candidates to employers in Howard County who are viable, vetted individuals ready for employment. The goal of the program is to “create leverage for employment opportunities in Kokomo for those who have felony convictions.”

Without a job, it is nearly impossible for these individuals to reintegrate into society and establish a new life. According to Indiana Department of Workforce Development, nearly three-quarters of Hoosier employers are reluctant or refuse to hire ex-offenders. Statistics demonstrate the probability of returning to prison for an employed ex-offender is 33 percent, while the unemployed ex-offender is 62 percent.

The Employee’s Readiness Program is available to all ex-offenders in Howard County. The program consists of a series of instructive opportunities to develop the skills necessary to seek out and be a viable contender for employment opportunities. Employers and employment seekers are encouraged to attend to learn more about this innovative project.
