Jail committee to give update

The committee considering possible construction of a new jail in Tipton County will provide information to the public Thursday.

The committee will meet at 6 p.m. at the Tipton County Courthouse.

Committee members will receive a report from Sheriff John Moses, Commissioner Joe VanBibber and Councilman James Powell on a recent trip to Colorado to attend a jail planning workshop sponsored by the federal government.

Last year, consultants recommended construction of a new 100-bed jail facility for Tipton County. The consultants estimated the cost at between $7 million and $11 million. The consultants said it would be difficult to expand the existing jail because of its current location.

KHS announces open house

Kokomo High School officials and the Kokomo Area Career Center will host an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The administration is sponsoring a free chicken and noodle dinner in the high school cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m., and KHS and KACC teachers will be in their rooms to greet parents from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

As parents visit classrooms during the open house, they may schedule a parent-teacher conference for the upcoming Parent Conference Half-day, set for 7:30 to 11:05 a.m. Oct. 18 at KHS.

The Sargasso staff will kick off its 2014 yearbook sales campaign in the foyer as staff members offer the 2014 Sargasso at a reduced price of $40. In addition, a few 2013 yearbooks will be available for $60.
