Wabash River body ID'd as missing Indiana man

DUGGER, Ind. (AP) — A southwestern Indiana pathologist has identified a body found last week in the Wabash River as that of an Indiana man reported missing two months ago.

State Police say a Vincennes pathologist used dental records to identify the body as that of 36-year-old Shane R. Porter of Dugger. His body was found April 1 in the river about three miles north of Mt. Carmel, Ill.

The Princeton Daily Clarion reports Porter's preliminary cause of death ruling is listed as drowning.

Porter's relatives reported him missing after he failed to report for work Feb. 8. That same day, a 911 caller reported seeing a man swimming in the Wabash River on Vincennes' south side.

His car was found abandoned Feb. 10 in a parking area near Vincennes' Memorial Bridge.
