CARMI, Ill. (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to fatally shooting a southwestern Indiana woman in an Illinois cornfield has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.
Twenty-five-year-old Thomas M. Davidson was sentenced Wednesday in a White County courtroom in Carmi, Ill., after pleading guilty to first degree murder in the August slaying of 58-year-old Sandra Burkhardt.
The Princeton Daily Clarion reports Davidson shot the of Poseyville, Ind., woman in a cornfield west of Crossville, Ill., after forcing her to drive him from her home after she returned home with her infant grandchild.
The child was left in the home unharmed. Authorities discovered Burkhardt's body after her daughter arrived home and found her son alone and no sign of Burkhardt or her car.
