Carmel closes Flowing Well after bacteria found

CARMEL (AP) — A popular central Indiana well has been closed after recent tests showed the presence of troublesome bacteria.

Carmel officials have closed the so-called Flowing Well after tests turned up coliform, a bacteria that can indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms or pathogens.

Carmel Parks Department spokeswoman Lindsey Labas said Tuesday anyone who has water from the well should throw it out and not drink it.

Many people take jugs and other containers to the well to fill them from the thousands of gallons of water it provides daily.
