Indy mini-marathon puts extra security in place

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Extra security measures will be in place Saturday for the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon.

The 500 Festival says the 35,000 participants are being asked not to bring or wear backpacks or duffel bags, and those items won't be accepted at the gear check station.

It says any bags or items left unattended will be removed by security personnel.

At the start line in downtown Indianapolis, only participants with a runners' bib will be allowed to enter the corrals. Participants will only be allowed to enter the corrals in which they are assigned.

Authorities reviewed security at the race following the Boston Marathon bombing.
