Vandals spray-paint over part of South Bend mural

---- — SOUTH BEND (AP) — A large mural that volunteers painted last summer on a bridge that's an entryway to downtown South Bend has been defaced by vandals.

WSBT-TV reports that a portion of the 172,000-square-foot mural depicting a brightly-colored river scene was defaced by vandals last week with black spray-paint. The mural is located along Indiana 933 beneath a pedestrian bridge.

The artists in charge of the painting, CStack Studios, say they're already drafting plans to repaint the damaged section once the weather allows.

CStack Studios says in a statement that while the vandals have "a can of spray paint, we have the dedication to the project and the community who supported it so whole-heartedly" to restore the mural to its original condition.
