---- — INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana State Fair opens its 17-day run with a schedule including the annual high school marching band contest.

Gov. Mike Pence was expected to be on hand for an opening day celebration Friday morning at the Glass Barn at the fairgrounds on the north side of Indianapolis.

Band Day has 45 marching bands from across the state being judge on music, visual execution and general effect.

Fairgoers looking to save $5 can take advantage of the State Fair Park & Ride service at the nearby Glendale Mall. It offers free shuttle service from Glendale Mall's Rural Street lot, where visitors can also park for free, to the fairgrounds. Shuttles run every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day of the fair.
