Floodwaters hit Central Indiana after overnight rains

ZIONSVILLE (AP) — Heavy overnight rains have flooded rivers, streams and streets across central Indiana, driving some people from their homes and prompting school districts to cancel or delay the start of classes.

The flooding prompted Boone County just northwest of Indianapolis to declare a local state of emergency Friday morning and urge residents to stay home and off roadways. County emergency management agency spokesman Chris Burcham says authorities have helped with numerous vehicle evacuations.

He says the communities of Lebanon and Zionsville have both had at least one home evacuation due to high waters that followed overnight storms which dropped more than three inches of rain on some parts of central Indiana.

Although nearly all of that rain has pushed east of the state, most of Indiana remains under a flood watch.
