Police plan active-shooter training at school

MISHAWAKA (AP) — Police in northern Indiana will conduct an active-shooter training program at a large high school.

St. Joseph County police Lt. Matt Blank says the training drill involving multiple police and emergency agencies will be held at Penn High School in Mishawaka on Saturday. The drill will involve closing down the street that runs in front of the school.

The Penn-Harris-Madison School Corp. is helping to coordinate the event.

The school district had 32 percent of its students miss a day of school on April 15 after authorities disclosed they had found an anonymous threat against unspecified schools in Elkhart and St. Joseph counties. Sixty percent to 70 percent of Elkhart Community Schools students didn't attend class that day.

The threat proved to be unfounded.
