Response might head off Ivy Tech site closures

Indianapolis — An Ivy Tech Community College official says he's optimistic that it won't have to close any of its class sites around Indiana after projecting last summer that up to 20 might have to be shut down.

Numerous cities have worked to find ways to cover costs such as rent so that Ivy Tech could keep open some of the smaller of its more than 70 across the state.

Ivy Tech executive vice president Jeff Terp tells The Indianapolis Star he doesn't expect immediate closures. He says the warning came after a school review found 19 sites were losing money.

One of those sites is in the Ohio River town of Tell City. Mayor Barbara Ewing says she's working to reduce Ivy Tech's $61,000 rent and utility expenses there.
