INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Mike Pence is heading to the storm-damaged Kokomo area as he begins his tour of some of the destruction left by tornadoes and severe thunderstorms that hit the state Sunday.
The governor's office says Pence will fly by helicopter Monday morning to Kokomo, where he'll join Mayor Greg Goodnight and U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita in surveying damage in the north-central Indiana city.
Pence will then fly onto Logansport to see storm damage there before traveling onto Lafayette. After visiting those northern Indiana communities early Monday afternoon, the governor will travel to the southwestern Indiana city of Washington.
Indiana Homeland Security spokesman John Erickson says the state is just beginning to assess whether the damage from Sunday's storms is severe enough for officials to request federal disaster assistance.
