Man shot in head outside Indianapolis motel

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities say a man has been shot in the head outside a motel on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

Police were called to the Quality Inn about 5:45 a.m. Friday and found the man on the ground in the motel's parking lot. Television news reports say the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police investigators were searching the parking lot and had roped much of it off with crime-scene tape. No details about the circumstances of the shooting were immediately released.

The motel is near the Lafayette Road interchange with Interstate 65.
