Elkhart police investigating teen's fatal stabbing

ELKHART (AP) — Northern Indiana police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old Elkhart girl who was found stabbed to death over the weekend.

Elkhart County Sheriff's deputies found Tiana Alter's body Saturday in a bedroom in a home in Granger. A coroner says the teen died of multiple sharp force injuries.

The Elkhart Truth reports a person of interest was arrested at the scene Saturday, but officials have not yet released that individual's name.

A news release from the county's sheriff's department says that person was arrested on unrelated charges and Alter's death remains under investigation.

One of Alter's friends says the teen had been attending a career center. Shanta Clarke says Alter was "a smart, beautiful, successful woman" who loved singing and dancing.
