Work set to begin on Carmel segment of new U.S. 31

CARMEL (AP) — Road work is set to begin on a major highway north of Indianapolis.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says contractors are beginning work on upgrades to U.S. 31 in Carmel.

A $141 million contract includes interchange improvements at Interstate 465 and new roundabout interchanges at 106th, 116th, 131st and 136th streets. They're expected to open to traffic by the end of 2015.

Ramp restrictions on I-465 were set to begin Thursday night.

INDOT says motorists should expect off-road daytime construction along U.S. 31 and at the I-465 interchange. All work requiring restrictions on the highway will take place during overnight hours.
