Cleanup work continues week after Indiana storm

Goshen — Crews in a northern Indiana city are spending full days clearing downed trees and other debris more than a week after a strong storm hit the area.

Crews in Goshen have been using front-end loaders and dump trucks to remove debris from streets and yards since the July 1 storms that caused 11 small tornadoes and killed two people across northern Indiana.

None of those tornadoes hit Goshen, but the storm debris is so great that The Goshen News reports the city Board of Works this week declared a state of emergency so officials can immediately secure additional equipment.

Street Department foreman David Gibbs tells WSBT-TV crews are working nine hours a day and could be on cleanup duty for at least three more weeks.
