Report follows success of drug-tracking system

Indianapolis — Indiana officials are looking at the effectiveness of a tracking system intended to combat prescription drug abuse.

The Board of Pharmacy is scheduled Monday to receive a report on the statewide survey of the system.

Nearly 6,000 doctors, pharmacists, dentists and physician assistants across Indiana participated in the survey tracking the success of the INSPECT program.

The program summarizes the drugs prescribed for a patient, the doctor who prescribes them and the pharmacy that dispenses them.

The survey was administered through IUPUI's Center for Health Policy.

A private grant in 2012 funded the study to determine the program's impact on prescription drug abuse.

The Center for Health Policy at IUPUI analyzed the data and created the report.
