West Lafayette — Authorities say a Purdue University professor was seriously wounded at home by her husband who then killed himself.

The Tippecanoe County sheriff's department says 51-year-old Marcia Gentry was shot multiple times in her lower extremities Thursday night. The department says 64-year-old William Byers was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the couple's home near West Lafayette.

The Journal & Courier reports Gentry is a professor in Purdue's educational studies department.

Gentry was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she was listed Friday in serious condition.
