Lawmakers to hear from McGraw-Hill testing chief on ISTEP

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — State lawmakers plan on questioning the head of standardized test producer CTB/McGraw-Hill about ISTEP troubles that disrupted the exams for nearly 80,000 students last month.

A joint House and Senate education committee is scheduled to hear from company President Ellen Haley on Friday afternoon. Lawmakers from both parties have said they want answers about the troubles with the test.

Administration of the state's standardized test was thrown into chaos after online tests began freezing for hours at a time. The results are used to calculate teacher pay and school grades.

School Superintendent Glenda Ritz commissioned a separate review of whether the test results are valid. McGraw-Hill has a $95 million contract to provide online testing.
