Hammond group getting 'Christmas Story' statue

HAMMOND (AP) — The "triple-dog dare" flagpole scene from the movie "A Christmas Story" has inspired a statue being installed in northwestern Indiana.

The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority in Hammond was set to install a bronze statue of the character Flick getting his tongue stuck to a flag pole. Scott Schwartz, the actor who played Flick, was due to participate in the event Tuesday at the authority's headquarters.

The 1983 movie inspired by the stories of Hammond native Jean Shepherd was set in the fictional northwestern Indiana town of Hohman.
