Residents warned of Clinton County plastics plant fire

Frankfort — Authorities are warning residents near a fire at a central Indiana plastics plant to stay indoors to avoid the dense clouds of black smoke it's producing.

Clinton County central dispatch director Renee Crick says Frankfort's fire chief asked the sheriff's department to issue an alert warning residents east of the plant to remain indoors.

She says gusty winds are hampering efforts by five fire departments called to the scene to douse the blaze some 20 miles north of Lebanon.

The fire was reported about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Sonoco Molded Plastics plant on Frankfort's west side.

Crick says officials aren't sure if that plant is still in operation, but the fire is producing dense smoke clouds visible for miles around the plant.
