Officials seize 375 rabbits from Indianapolis home

Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Animal control officers have seized nearly 400 rabbits from a home on the south side of Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Star and WISH-TV report officials confiscated more than 375 rabbits and three dogs Tuesday.

Indianapolis Animal Care and Control spokesman Dan Shackle says the rabbits were locked in either a two-car garage or a lean-to shed inside cages covered with feces and hair. He describes the living conditions as "horrible."

Shackle says the agency gave the owner an opportunity to correct the violations after the situation was reported about a month ago. An inspection by animal control officers at that time found there was no water in several of the rabbits' bowls.

It wasn't immediately clear if the owner would face charges.
