Reward rises to $16K in woman's hit-and-run death

ZIONSVILLE (AP) — Private donors have boosted to $16,000 the reward for information leading to an arrest in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 78-year-old central Indiana woman.

The Boone County Sheriff's Department said Sunday that an Indianapolis Colts player has added $5,000 to the $10,000 reward a private donor offered earlier this week. Crime Stoppers had offered an original $1,000 reward in the case.

Sheriff Ken Campbell said in a statement he hopes the reward "motivates someone to send information to our investigators."

Anita Wernsing of Fayette was leaving Mt. Tabor Primitive Church near Zionsville on foot when she was struck and killed on Nov. 25.

WRTV-TV reports investigators say a dark sport-utility vehicle hit Wernsing. Vehicle parts found at the scene were sent to a State Police lab.
