South Bend man gets 90 years in girlfriend's death

SOUTH BEND (AP) — A judge has sentenced a northern Indiana man to 90 years in prison on murder and other charges from the shooting death of his girlfriend.

Twenty-eight-year-old Brice Webb apologized in court Monday for killing 21-year-old Cherlyn Reyes in their South Bend apartment, but said the October 2009 shooting was an accident and that he "truly loved her."

The South Bend Tribune reports the St. Joseph County judge sentenced Webb to 60 years for murder and added 30 years for a habitual offender conviction.

Webb was convicted of murder last month in a retrial after the Indiana Supreme Court last year threw out his original murder conviction for the shooting.
