N. Ind. city skipping garland on poles for season

The Associated Press

Warsaw —

A mayor says his northern Indiana city won't be putting garland on light poles when holiday decorations go up because he's not sure the poles are strong enough.

Mayor Joe Thallemer told WPTA-TV that even though the light poles appear sturdy, high winds make them unstable.

Some downtown business owners say they're concerned. Restaurant owner Brian McClelland says something will be missing downtown without the garland.

City officials say the downtown area will still have decorations for the holidays. They say businesses will put up wreaths to replace the garland.
