Dense fog likely caused deadly Indiana crash

KINGSFORD HEIGHTS, Ind. (AP) — A northern Indiana coroner says dense overnight fog likely caused a car crash that killed a 20-year-old woman.

LaPorte County Coroner John Sullivan pronounced Amanda Lovins dead at the scene of early Monday's crash, ruling that she died from blunt force trauma.

WSBT-TV reports that the Hamlet, Ind., woman crashed her car about 1:10 a.m. Monday when it left the roadway and crashed into a cement drainage culvert.

Sullivan says that at the time of the crash there was "very heavy pea soup thick fog" covering the area. He says that fog had reduced visibilities along the roadway where Lovins crash to less than one car length.

LaPorte County and other northern Indiana counties remained under dense fog advisories Monday morning.
