Police say boy causes SUV to hit mom, sister

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Police say a 5-year-old boy shifted his family's SUV into neutral, causing it to roll backward and hit his mother and 3-year-old sister at their Indianapolis home.

Police spokesman Officer Chris Wilburn says the father inside the house heard cries for help Wednesday evening and rushed out to move the SUV off his wife and daughter.

The woman suffered severe lower extremity injuries and both she and her daughter were conscious when they were taken to a hospital. Their names and information about their conditions wasn't immediately released.

Police say the girl was on the ground in a car seat as her mother was loading items into the SUV in the driveway of their home on the city's far eastside.
