Lebanon school system to post officers in schools

LEBANON (AP) — Another Indiana school district will increase the presence of police following the massacre at a school in Newtown, Conn.

The Lebanon Community School Corp. trustees voted this week to expand its school resource officer program this fall with two officers employed by the district.

The Lebanon Reporter says  the district about 25 miles northwest of Indianapolis until now has had a Lebanon Police Department officer with an office at Lebanon Middle School.

Superintendent Robert Taylor says the two officers will be housed at the middle school and high school. He says he hopes to expand the program to six officers eventually.

The Vigo County School Corp in western Indiana and the South Harrison Schools in southern Indiana are among districts that have expanded the presence of police this year.
