Man shows ID, then shoots at Fort Wayne officer

FORT WAYNE (AP) — Police in Fort Wayne say investigators don't know why a man who wasn't the one being sought by an officer pulled a gun and fired several shots.

City police spokesman Jason Anthony says the officer wasn't wounded and was able to disarm and handcuff the 33-year-old man before other officers arrived.

Anthony tells The Journal Gazette and WANE-TV that the officer went to a home on the city's south side for a reported domestic dispute Friday night. The officer stopped a man with a similar description to the man who had left the dispute.

Anthony says after showing identification, the man pulled the gun. Anthony says investigators determined the man wasn't involved in the domestic dispute, but he was arrested on preliminary charge of attempted murder.
