Police launch seat belt enforcement campaign

Indianapolis — Indiana State Police are launching another "Click it or Ticket" campaign aimed at getting people to wear seat belts.

State police say the seat belt enforcement campaign will begin Friday and continue until June 1st. It is part of a national mobilization that will also take place over the Memorial Day holiday period. It is supported by thousands of law enforcement agencies and traffic safety advocates across the country.

State police say more than 250 law enforcement agencies in Indiana will be conducting special patrols, day and night, to identify and ticket unrestrained drivers and passengers.

Police say statistics show wearing a seat belt increases the chances of surviving a crash by more than 50 percent.
