Police: Man had 1,500 pot plants on property

EVANSVILLE (AP) — Indiana State Police say they found more than 1,500 marijuana plants in the backyard and home of an Evansville man who now faces preliminary drug charges.

An anonymous tip led troopers to 50-year-old Mark Alan Hunt's home Wednesday afternoon. As they drove by his home, they spotted marijuana plants more than six feet tall in his backyard.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports troopers joined by local police and other agencies later served a search warrant and found more than 1,500 marijuana plants in Hunt's home and backyard. Authorities say the plants had a street value of about $1.5 million.

Hunt is being held without bond at the Vanderburgh County Jail. He faces preliminary charges of cultivating marijuana, dealing marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of marijuana.
