Woman survives load of lumber falling on her car

LAKE STATION, Ind. (AP) — State police say a quick-thinking driver survived a flatbed truck accidentally dumping a load of lumber on her car while taking an interstate ramp in northwestern Indiana too fast.

State police say 31-year-old Katrina Reillo of East Chicago was on a ramp from Interstate 65 north I-80/94 west about 3 p.m. Thursday when the truck in the next lane took the curve too fast, causing the lumber to shift and fall.

Police say Reillo was able to lie across her car's console toward the passenger seat when the lumber landed on the driver's side top, crushing it. She was taken to a hospital in Hobart with non-life threatening injuries. State police say the truck driver was treated and released for injuries. He also received a ticket.
