Home invasion uptick worries South Bend residents

Kokomo Tribune

---- — SOUTH BEND (AP) — Some South Bend residents say they're on edge following a series of home invasions and robberies in and around the northern Indiana city.

St. Joseph County police have investigated five home invasions since September. That's nearly equal to the total for all of last year.

Lt. Matt Blank tells the South Bend Tribune the recent home invasions don't appear related.

South Bend police Capt. Phil Trent says South Bend, Mishawaka and unincorporated parts of the county have seen only a slight increase in home invasion-style robberies.

One of home invasions occurred in the neighborhood just east of the University of Notre Dame campus. After that attack near his home, resident Mike Brown went out and bought a gun.

The senior says he worried he'd "be a perfect victim."
