Strickler’s celebrates 40th anniversary

Craig and Tammy Strickler, owners of Strickler Jewelers, located at 3210 S. LaFountain St. in Kokomo, are celebrating both their 40th year in the jewelry business and their 40th wedding anniversary this year.

It all began when Craig and Tammy found summer employment at a South Bend jewelry store during summer break from Ball State University in 1973. She worked in the office and Craig was on the sales floor.

“We got married on Dec. 15 of that year. The last 40 years have just zoomed by,” said Craig. Now they are celebrating their ruby anniversary.

With Tammy’s roots in Kokomo, the couple decided to open their first store on Dixon Road in 1985.

“Kokomo has been very good to us. We like to support the community and schools. They have given us so much,” they said.

The market has made alternative metals, like titanium and tungsten, especially popular for men.

Tammy and Craig take pride in carrying exclusive designs and Tammy works personally with designers to create custom wedding ring sets, including using blue, black, yellow, green, and the new spicy brown diamonds. It is important to create something unique for their customers and friends.

In addition to selling jewelry, Strickler Jewelers is a full-service jewelry store.

“We string pearls, appraise items, and do watch and jewelry repairs. Jewelry is one of your most meaningful and personal possessions, and we treat it as such,” they said.

Tammy, who is a Graduate Gemologist (G.I.A.), sums up her last 40 years: “I love the diversity of my job. I love being on the floor and talking with people and working on repairs. It was hard when we started. There was a lot of work, and you paid yourself last. We have gotten to the place where we are enjoying the work without the stress. That is why I am here every day.”

Craig added, “Our name is on the door, and it is important for us to give the best service that our customers can find. We are incredibly lucky to have found each other and a profession we both love so much.”
