---- — In an effort to help homeowners and businesses that were impacted by the recent tornadoes, Howard County Assessor Jamie Shepherd is urging taxpayers to document all damages on real property.

Shepherd explained that if a substantial amount of property was damaged, a one-time credit may be applied to the property tax bill. “During a time of devastation, we understand all avenues of assistance will need explored,” she said in a press release.

Since many victims are currently gathering all information to submit to other relief agencies, now is the time to file the appropriate paperwork to receive the credit. The Howard County Assessor and Center Township Assessor offices have the paperwork that is required.

Property owners can visit their offices on the third floor of the Howard County Administration Center, 120 E. Mulberry St. (the gold building) or find the form on the county’s official website. Call 765-456-2211, or 765-456-2226 for property located within Center Township, for more information.
