Joan L. Hancock
May 9, 1928 - June 23, 2009
Joan L. Hancock, 81, Kokomo, passed away at 2:49 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in her home. She was born May 9, 1928, in Kokomo, to Charles Wilbur and Hazel Ione (Crume) Fowler. On Dec. 12, 1944, she married James “Jim” R. Hancock, and he survives.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She loved cooking, crafting, and bowling. She loved and cared for her family very much, especially her kids and grandkids.
Along with her husband, Jim, Joan is survived by two sons, Phillip J. Hancock, Speedway, and Mark A. and wife Sue Hancock, Kokomo; three daughters, Lou Ann and husband Richard West, Sharpsville, Cynthia J. and husband Walter Jones, Cloverdale, and Deborah L. Sparks, Kokomo; a sister, Jean L. and husband Verl Winslow, Frankfort; 11 grandchildren, Bradley P. and wife Julie Hancock, Bennett J. Hancock, Travis M. Gray, Ryan Gray, Beth A. and husband Todd Jones, Jennifer and husband Jeff Weideman, Brian L. Patrick, Dr. Anthony J. and wife Kristine Hornaday, Dr. Matthew M. and wife Tamara Hornaday, Spc. Craig B. and wife Rozelle Hornaday, and Lauren E. Hornaday; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Janice Davis; a brother, Jack Fowler; and two grandchildren, Michael J. Patrick and Julie A. Hancock.
Services for Joan are 1 p.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with the Rev. Verl Winslow officiating. Burial will follow at Albright Cemetery. Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday in the mortuary.
