Taylor fares well at Academic Super Bowl

---- — The Taylor High School Academic Super Bowl team got the 2014 competition season started off right by picking up two first place awards as well as a second place and third place award March 6 at Western High School.

The academic competition is sponsored by Purdue University and the Indiana Association of School Principals. At the Western Invitational, Taylor competed in Class 3 against teams from Elwood, Eastern, Oak Hill, Northwestern and Wabash and garnered first place in both the math and interdisciplinary categories.

Math team members include Ashley Nguyen, Fred Durham and Preston Hendrickson. They are coached by Taylor High School math teacher Phil Spitler. The interdisciplinary squad consists of Fred Durham, Ashley Nguyen, Nick Nguyen, Eddie Rogers and Kyle Orzech. The interdisciplinary team is coached by Taylor High School art teacher MaryAnne Dishon.

The science team, coached by THS teacher Jim Grossman, received second place honors; members include Eddie Rogers, Quentin Howard, Matt Rikard and Ashley Nguyen. The Taylor fine arts team garnered third place, with team members Heidi Bonus, Nick Nguyen, Kyle Orzech, Brandon Nguyen and Taylor Pemberton. The Titans will return to competition at the regional level April 22.
