Local teams make it to quarterfinals at robotics regional

---- — WEST LAFAYETTE — With their robots competing to place inflatable balls in a goal, three local teams fared well at the 10th annual FIRST Robotics Boilermaker Regional competition at Purdue University.

Kokomo High School’s TechnoKats, Taylor High School’s Robo Titans and Western High School’s PantherTech teams were ranked 10th, 16th and 22nd respectively in the field of 40 teams from across the Midwest. The competition took place March 20 to 22.

After qualifying rounds, teams combined forces for the quarterfinals. The Robo Titans teamed up with students from Carmel and West Lafayette to win two of three matches against the TechnoKats, PantherTech and a team from Greenwood. The Robo Titans’ alliance was defeated in the semi-finals.

The Innovation in Control Award, sponsored by Rockwell Automation, was given to the Kokomo High School team, with support from Delphi, Andy Mark Inc., Duke Energy and Foresite.
