Ivy Tech Corporate College is offering a comprehensive 50-hour course that will prepare students to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s certification exam and enter the pharmacy field. Classes will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 29 through June 17.
Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, intravenous flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. The Pharmacy Technician Certification program includes a graded final test to help prepare students for the actual certification exam.
The course will be held at The Excel Center, 101 W. Superior St. in Kokomo, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 29 to June 17. The cost of the course is $999 per participant. Neither the PTCB exam nor the clinicals with a local pharmacy are included in the price.
