Erik Kellar’s thoughts: “I became interested in working at Bowman’s Towing because my cousin said it was a good place to work. I volunteered at first, but then I applied for a job and was hired. My boss also owns a tree service business, so on my first day I cut trees. For my job at Bowman’s Towing, I work on cars, scrap cars, help run the tow trucks, cut trees, cut wood, do maintenance and clean up. This work experience is preparing me for my future because by working on vehicles, it leads to being an auto mechanic or a diesel mechanic. My experiences at the Kokomo Area Career Center also have been very helpful. During my two years in auto technology, I have learned many things about auto mechanics that I did not know before I took the classes.”
David Tharp’s comments: “At Bowman’s Towing, we specialize in complete auto body repair, towing and heavy recovery. I believe that career centers like the Kokomo Area Career Center are necessary for our future. They ensure that students receive hands-on training to go along with their mechanical learning ability. Our students need to be prepared for their future. Erik has learned auto body repair, mechanical repair, and that there is no job too small that needs to be done. Erik has a strong work ethic. I believe it is excellent that students can intern at a business before they graduate from high school. Erik has matured quite a bit since he has been working at Bowman’s Towing. Since he plans to join the military, this experience at Bowman’s Towing has helped him learn how to take orders and has taught him discipline, and both will help him in the future.”
