Dr. Tony Bennett, Indiana state superintendent of public instruction, addressed Partners in Education, hosted by Western School Corporation in its September meeting.
Bennett discussed many topics including charting a student’s learning by using the growth model. He spoke in detail about measuring the effectiveness of the teacher’s ability to teach by the growth of their students during the school year. Another area he spoke on was making sure Indiana students’ reading levels were on track and each student succeeds at their grade level before moving ahead.
The statement made by Western Superintendent Peter O’Rourke and then reiterated by Bennett, “Can’t read, you will not succeed.” drove home the emphasis on literacy to all who were in attendance.
